{"id":3253,"date":"2017-08-23T11:12:27","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T11:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vinhosdapeninsuladesetubal.org\/castas\/castelao\/"},"modified":"2021-04-21T13:46:55","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T13:46:55","slug":"castelao","status":"publish","type":"castas","link":"https:\/\/vinhosdesetubal.pt\/en\/castas\/castelao\/","title":{"rendered":"Castel\u00e3o"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is the most cultivated red varietal in the south of Portugal, accounting for about sixty-percent of production on the Set\u00fabal Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>This varietal has also been known as Periquita since 1830, when Jos\u00e9 Maria da Fonseca planted it on his estate in Azeit\u00e3o \u2014 Cova da Periquita \u2014 and whose wines garnered so much fame that the name has spread throughout the entire region.<\/p>\n<p>It has a superb ability to adapt to different climactic conditions, which makes it remarkably versatile.
